Humour Risk
Nothing funny about this forgettable album.
Humour Risk is American singer-songwriter Cass McCombs’ second album of 2011 and it serves as something of a bookend to the introspective Wit’s End, which was released a mere six months ago. A slightly more upbeat collection, nothing here has that all-important spark of greatness and the eight tracks ultimately become a little too samey. With (many) repeated listens, McCombs’ fans, friends and family will no doubt enjoy the likes of ‘The Same Thing’ and the summery fuzz-pop of ‘Mystery Mail’. But for the casual listener, Humour Risk will just sound like a B-side compilation.
