Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin has jetted over to Brighton to discuss the dangers of Brexit with politicians there at the UK Labour Party Conference.
“I will be reiterating my belief that Brexit will be bad for Britain, and bad for Ireland too,” the Irish Labour leader tells us.
“And I will be welcoming the nuanced position that Labour has adopted over recent weeks, while calling upon the Labour leadership to go further, and to take whatever actions they can to stop the relentless drive towards a hard Brexit.”
He adds, “As members of the Party of European Socialists, I have been working alongside Jeremy Corbyn and Colum Eastwood over recent months to try to influence the debate on Brexit in the United Kingdom, and to clearly spell out the dangers of Brexit to the island of Ireland.
"As sister parties, our friendships are deep and enduring. Friends have an obligation to support each other, but also to be honest with each other.
"I look forward to engaging with members, activists and politicians from across the United Kingdom over the coming days at what promises to be a lively and eventful Labour Conference."
