Booka Brass will be teaming up with rising electronic-soul star Soulé and BARQ for a once-off set of performances at the Sugar Club on January 26.
On January 26, Rónán Scarlett of Booka Brass Band will be heading to Dublin's Sugar Club with the rest of the lads in tow. They'll be playing with BARQ, fronted by the unstoppable Jess Kav, and Soulé, who combines soul and electro-pop into an unforgettable sound.
So what's in store when a full brass band comes together to play with two soul singers? According to Scarlett, it's the kind of unique performance that could only happen here in Dublin. “You look at the venues around Dublin that are putting on gigs from a wide variety of genres and who are seeing massive turnouts," he says. "As a fan of music in general it’s great to listen to. Then as a musician, it puts pressure on you to be the best that you can be because there’s so much competition out there. It’s very exciting at the same time; the rising quality of talent out there gives us opportunities to collaborate – this being a prime example.”
With Booka Brass having such a massive sound on their own, Scarlett says he's looking forward to working with Jess Kav, as her “stunning voice” will combine with their sound to make a true powerhouse act.
“A lot of our music is quite groove-based,” he says, “which is similar to Barq and Soulé. We’re going to be coming in there with a lot of energy and I can promise that we’ll be making something groovy.”
