Dreary moan-rock from Texans old enough to know better
It may have been 15 years since Kurt Cobain ate a shotgun sandwich, but try telling that to Texan “complaint-rock” dudes Blue October. Do you want to know how, like, sad and stuff they’re feeling inside? Just take a listen to the none more miserable album opener ‘Weight Of The World’ for a brief taster (it certainly made us feel more than a little bummed out too). When Blue October forget their fake grunge-isms, they’re a fairly decent little act (current single ‘Dirt Room’ is good fun) but those moments are few and far between. Approaching Normal is geared towards fans of Nickelback and Ugly Betty and while we’re sure they think they really do mean it, maaaaan, their fifth album is nothing more than a cash-in marketed for Twilight loving teens and people who should know better.
Key Track: ‘Dirt Room’
