Ahead of their Academy date tonight, the English quintet talked to Ed Power in the new issue of Hot Press. On the agenda? Accomplishments, authenticity, and ABBA.
They're widely tipped as one of the bands likely to take 2016 by storm, and just as well - it turns out that's what Blossoms had in mind all along.
Talking to Ed Power in the new issue of Hot Press, they make no secret of their ambition to win over the masses and, as frontman Tom Ogden explains, the timing may just be perfect.
"Rock music goes in cycles and I think people are ready for a band they can believe in," he says. "We're five lads who aren't from privileged backgrounds. We're mates - normal people. The audience can see a bit of themselves in us."
As for what listeners might hear in their music, Tom reveals that beneath the indie-pop bombast that's made them such a hot property is an unlikely inspiration.
"Drop the needle on an ABBA song - any ABBA song - and you're going to hear a pop hook almost straight away," he opines. "That's what great pop should be about - melodies that draw you in yet are never cheesy."
He also opens up on the influences of their home town of Stockport, and the achievement of reaching an older crowd - check out the full interview in the new issue of Hot Press, on sale now.
