BLAXPLOITASTIC SOLO OUTING FROM OUTKAST ICON
Who the hell is Sir Lucious Left Foot, we hear you cry? Well, you may remember him as Big Boi from Outkast and, rather surprisingly, this is his first-ever solo record. Made over a three-year period, The Son Of Chico Dusty is a lovingly-crafted opus that wears its 70s soul and blaxploitation influences on its sleeve. Big Boi's lyrical gymnastics are at an all-time high too, with his brain-meltingly fast flow taking centre stage for the hook-filled 'Hustle Blood' and recent single 'Shutterbug'.
As ever, the rapper is ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest future sounds as well. Hot young things Janelle Monae, B.O.B., Gucci Mane and T.I. all make appearances. However, not once are you in doubt whose show this really is. In truth, Big Boi/ Sir Lucious rarely puts a foot wrong . In fact, the only weak point is the George Clinton collaboration 'Fo Yo Sorrows', which is an uncharacteristically brainless tune about pot smoking and is (rather ironically) forgettable. While it's true that Chico Dusty isn't quite as visionary as the mighty Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, it's a fine addition to Big Boi's already impressive canon.
