Heart of my Own
Pre-industrial folk hits the sweet spot
Canadian folk singer Basia Bulat harks back to a bygone era when all the fields were green and electricity was akin to witchcraft. Her well-delicate crafted ditties have a timeless quality and while songs such as ‘Run’ and ‘I’m Forgetting Everyone’ might be a little dusty they still tug on the heartstrings. Heart Of My Own is her second record and it sounds bigger and better than its predecessor. Aided and abetted by Arcade Fire producer Howard Bilerman, her songs have been fleshed out with stabbing strings, galloping drums, crashing cymbals and sound all the better for it.
