La La Land Was Big Winner At BAFTAs 2017

The musical La La Land scooped five major gongs at last night’s BAFTAs ceremony in London.

La La Land was named Best Film, with Emma Stone receiving the award for Leading Actress and Damien Chazelle won in the best Director category. While Linus Sandgren won in the Cinematography category and Justin Hurwitz won the Original Music award on the night.

But La La Land's leading male star Ryan Gosling lost out on the night to Casey Affleck who won Leading Actor for his role in the critically acclaimed Manchester by the Sea, which also earned its writer/director Kenneth Lonergan the award for Original Screenplay.

The Supporting Actor gong went to Dev Patel for Lion, which also won the Adapted Screenplay award for writer Luke Davies.

Meanwhile, the Outstanding British Film was won by I, Daniel Blake, which was directed by Ken Loach. And the Supporting Actress award was presented to Viola Davis for her role in Fences.

The ceremony was hosted for a 12th year by Stephen Fry and held at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Here’s the full list of last night’s winners:
