The American rap community is about to get some neighbourly competition
Roll over South Central, tell Compton
the news!
Having had it all their own way for the past 20 years, the American rap community is about to get some neighbourly competition.
Staged last weekend, the inaugural Havana Hip Hop festival proved to be a coming of age for homegown acts like Orishas, Nonsingle, Free Black Hole and Anonymous Edge who’ve only recently come off the Cuban government’s ‘banned’ list.
Apparently, “The anti-American rhymes went along the lines of protesting the bombings in Vieques, Puerto Rico and the 40-year-old trade embargo against Cuba. The rappers also blasted the racial discrimination against Afro-Cubans and the harsh economic situation which forces Cuban girls into prostitution with foreign tourists.”

“The War Dogs, America’s Forgotten Heroes documentary, which was seen on the Discovery Channel, was produced to educate America about the war dogs and the pivotal role they played in the Vietnam War,” says the introductory blurb. “It recounts how 200 of these valiant dogs returned to the U.S. at the close of the war, and how none of them were honored.”
No offence to war-dogs.com, but Rover is not necessarily man’s best friend. To find out what is visit www.expotrail.com/boystoys, the promo site for the huge gadget ‘n’ gizmos exhibition that’s RDS-bound in November.
Which just leaves us time to mention www.abebooks.com, a.k.a. the second-hand Amazon, and www.fatchicksinpartyhats.com, which does exactly what it says it does on the url. They really do think of everything on the
internet.
