Aoife Nic Canna is based in Dublin but remains a Limerick girl at heart. Host of the long-running weekly dance show Club Cheol on Near FM, she’s now coming at you with a new major documentary series, Folklore From The Dance Floor.
The goal of the six part series is to cover the stories and characters of the Irish dance scene, from the disco balls of the ‘70s and the sweaty raves of the ‘80s, all the way up to today’s fresh and eclectic scene. It includes interviews with the Godfather of Punk Terry Hooley, Fish Go Deep’s Greg Dowling, club historians and DJs Tonie Walsh and Paul Tarpey, award–winning writer Kevin Barry, Scary Eire’s DJ Mek, Irish producers Sian, Arveene and Chymera, along with our very own Stuart Clark. Airing every Tuesday 4.30pm – 5.30pm on Near FM, you can catch up by podcast: tinyurl.ie/a00. Check Aoife at her residency every Friday night, at Dublin’s Izakaya Bar.
Another Dublin DJ and producer gaining studio time is DJ Ciara Cunnane. She’s recently taken a small break from gigs to lock herself away and focus on honing her production skills. She’s just emerged with two completed tracks and was gracious enough to post them up for our listening pleasure! She’s also hosting the Deep Vibes radio show every second Friday, from 10pm to midnight. On the schedule: everything from deep house, garage house, jackin’ to tech house. Check the new tracks at tinyurl.ie/a01. Tune into the show here: deepvibes.co.uk and check the repeats at soundcloud.com/ciaracunnane.
Up North, Belfast based producer Mark Rogan has just released his newest EP, Anxiety/Paranoia. It also happens to be the premier release for the Belfast based imprint DSTN Records! The flagship output comes with remixes by Bas Mooy, Paul Mac, Jerome Hill and Forward Strategy Group. Think hard, dark and industrial! Check facebook.com/MarkRoganMusic.
In Drogheda, there’s some love and joy coming to you with this year’s (appropriately named) Joy Fest! The event has a slew of DJs lined up, flying in from all around Europe, and by slew, I mean over 60! Be prepared for five arenas with special guests like Goodgreef, Bionic, Mark Kavanagh, Andy Moor, Sean Tyas, Orjan Nilsen, Alex Kidd, Kutski and many, many more. It’s happening at Fusion Complex August 5. Check joyfestivalireland.com for ticket info.
