A new documentary about the iconic record franchise will be released October 16
Before the advent of the Internet and the proliferation of downloadable music and videos, vinyl records were all the rage.
There is a type of authenticity associated with owning musical records, and while the prevalence of vinyl is slowly diminishing, it is still regarded as a valuable artefact in society today.
Back in the 1960s, when record stores started to become popular amongst the public, a man named Russell Solomon established the first Tower Records store in Sacramento, California.
From 1960 until 2004, Tower Records expanded and flourished, establishing stores on an international scale. Not only did the franchise sell records, but also DVDs, CDs, tapes, toys, electronic devices and accessories.
In 2004, however, Tower Records entered bankruptcy for the first time, and then again a second time in 2006. Finally, on December 22, 2006, Tower Records closed its doors for good.
In order to illustrate this significant milestone in musical history, a new documentary film is being released, which is directed by Colin Hanks.
The movie will be entitled All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records, and it will be released in theatres on October 16.
