In a major interview with Hot Press, Creation Records legend Alan McGee has revealed that plans for the staging of a Britpop musical with Irvine Welsh are back on again.
“We’re in talks about that with a certain big time promoter,” McGee reveals. “It came to life again about two-weeks ago, so there you go – you’ve got your fucking exclusive!
“I met Irvine the other night and – you have to put this in! – he had a fucking skirt on. He said, ‘It’s a kilt’ but I know a skirt when I see one. I’m worried about Irvine…”
Quite. Back at the music industry coalface with new label 359 Music, McGee also talked to us about his Creation Records: Riots, Raves & Running A Label autobiography, which hits bookshelves on November 7.
“It’s salacious about me rather than other people – which is still plenty salacious enough!” he chuckles. “There are a lot of revelations, but you’d have to look at the book to understand what I’m trying to say.”
He also recalls meeting Michael Jackson; the Oasis stories you didn’t read in the red-tops; My Bloody Valentine; David Bowie; Morrissey; Terri Hooley and, natch, the star-studded roster of 359 acts that includes Dubliner Craig Walker and his Mineral buddies.
