It's the biggest night in British television. Last night the cream of the crop of British talent are adorned, Hollywood crashed the red carpet and Aidan Poldark's man bun was the apple of everyone's eye.
Basked in sunlight on London's South Bank, the biggest stars of British television and film (along with some Hollywood A-lister's) strolled down the red carpet, smiled for pictures and were serenaded by Elle King's sassy vocals.
Much less of the fanfare and media craze surrounds the BAFTA awards as opposed to its American counterparts. Instead the night is dedicated to focusing on the great talent and there is a much more leisurely ambiance as this is a night solely of celebrating great media content. Hosted by the ever-infectious Graham Norton, it was full of laughs and camaraderie. There was a strong Irish presence amongst this years nominees. Graham Norton, Sharon Horgan and Aidan Turner were all in with a chance of winning with the latter stealing the show. Poldark walked away with the Radio Times Audience Award, thanks to the public.

And what better way to celebrate the win than by commissioning Poldark for a second series?
The even better news? Filming is underway for #Poldark Series Two. ? #BAFTATVhttps://t.co/oaFqEAhBCs

Politics were a constant presence throughout the ceremony but not of a social commentary that dominated with the #OscarsSoWhite trend. Instead, many of the speeches brought in the future of the BBC. The BBC has long been considered the pinnacle of British broadcasting but in recent years the argument has intensified that the BBC unfairly presides over broadcasting leading to a lack of equality over British airwaves.
